Editors Letter; Issue 3
We will start with the Marcus Aurelius quote that inspired this issue at the time of writing this in August where everyone is having their last holiday before the summer ends.
People try to get away from it all—to the country, to the beach, to the mountains. You always wish that you could too. Which is idiotic: you can get away from it anytime you like.
This led us to consider ancient Roman festivals during which the upper class of the empire would escape, from the harsh realities of Roman life, and seek their own version of paradise. Although paradise can manifest in various ways, Marcus Aurelius discusses how we can discover it within ourselves. For some, paradise is synonymous with inner peace. We discussed the evolution of antidepressants.
We also wrote about how immigrants searched for paradise, and this is reflected through the Hawaiian shirt, a shirt that carries a colonial legacy. Another American classic, the denim jean, is rooted in the Great Gold Rush and tells us the story of American entrepreneurship and those whose legacies lasted through to the present day.
In this paradise issue we also talk about the history of anti depressants. Whilst for some we can meditate and find life calm, around 1/4 of us suffer with a mental health issue and paradise for us is a sense of calm.
Lastly I delved in to the glossy romance novels I read on holiday. I love Jackie Collins but wanted to find the origin of the original romance novel.
Its been a very busy month for us here, in regards to tactical planning for our bag brand and with fashion week in swing, we are expecting a bumper 2025.
Thanks so much for reading our editors letter We have so much work to do.
